Hi Ya’ll!
Natalie and I have each had a couple of hiccups and stumbles with family and health, and we are just trying to keep our heads above water these last couple of months and because of that, The Serial Hour has had a bit of a setback.
But we are both so determined to succeed and excited for the story we’ve come up with, that we refuse to let it die away. So, while we may have been MIA for these past couple months, we have every intention of returning and this time we’re bringing friends…well…faerie friends, that is 🧚🏻🧚🏾…
So, what are we hoping to accomplish in 2025, you may be asking?
Vignettes
Every Friday for the next three weeks, we will release a tiny snippet here, introducing our characters and their world to you. You get to find out how faeries party, trade, eat, sleep and from each other. We’re also placing our book at a specific time and place - 1803 England - allowing you to experience life just before the Industrial Revolution.
Last Friday Lives: starting Jan 31st
Serial Hour is based on fearless creativity - two writers working together out in the open and publishing as they go. With live streaming now on Substack, we’ve decided to take this principle one step further by scheduling a video and chat session on the last Friday of every month at 10am EST/3pm GMT.
In each session, you will get
- A discussion of the last three episodes, including (ahem) creative disagreements and cocktail recipes
- Cornish insults, historical facts and faerie lore
- Sneak previews and teasers of the next month’s plot.
How do I join a Live?
Substack live recordings can only be accessed via mobile in the app. We recommend downloading the app beforehand to watch them. You will receive a push notification to join us, as well as an reminder on Notes and in the new Chat thread.
What if I can’t make it?
That’s fine. We won’t add you to our faerie hitlist. We appreciate your boss may not understand your fiction addiction, the wifi is dead, or you are waiting to be tortured in a dentist’s chair.
We will post a replay to Serial Hour afterwards and the chat session will continue throughout the day. Savvy?
THE BOOK
Okay, so we’ve got some episodes in the works, and these will make up Season One, where we tell our first official story. This will go live from the 31st of January, and we will release one episode a week for three weeks, with the Live on the fourth week. Watch out for each release!
Character sketches
We have three characters and we know how confusing a serialised book can get with multiple viewpoints. Nat’s talking to an artist about banner sketches we can add to the beginning of each episode so you have a visual guide to who is telling the story.
Chapter List & Glossary
Substack’s almost (but not quite) there with the links for serialised writing. To help you out if you are late to the party or miss an email, Erica’s building a Chapter List you can bookmark. The post will be updated when we release the latest episode so you can read the newest plot twist without searching for it.
A week can be a long time between episodes, so Nat has also compiled a glossary and character guide to refresh your memory if you need it. That’s the official version. (The unofficial version is that she had to devise a list of faerie swearwords she could use around her kids.)
Are you ready? Excited? We are! Watch out for that first vignette.

Eee! You’re writing during the Regency period! Holler if you need any historical help. The Industrial Revolution is well underway. Sounds like you’re scheduling it right before the worker riots though.
LOL. Oh yes.
